There's a breed contained within the breed of Black Angus which
are called "grass cattle". They are suited to thrive on low
input (grass and hay) diet. Such cattle are moderate framed,
with large girth, bespeaking capacity to digest large quantity
of forage adequate to support annual reproductive success and
make delicious, tender beef. They must grow, develop, and
function year after year on our hill pastures in which the
dominant grass is Ky31-fescue. Our blood-lines are carefully
derived from multiple sources chosen in order that the resulting
gene pool in our herd would likely contain genes favorable to
fertility, growth, and development in our particular fescue
dominated environment. From this broad based genotypic
background we now select home bred animals that perform year to
year to constitute our breeding herd.

recent Herd Sire is Lisnageers Prime Time 206. We selected him
as a big butted, thick chested, frame 5.0 yearling in 2003. You
can check pedigree and EPDs with his registration #14283076 at
www.angus.org/registeredangus. 206 was pre-potent for grass
biotype cattle and has left us with 2 junior herd sires and many
young cows which are functioning well on fescue without grain
supplements ever.
He was recently selected by Dr. Allen Williams for use in the
Tall Grass Beef program (www.tallgrassbeef.com).
We have semen for sale at $15/straw. He has also been approved
by Gearld Fry as sire for grass based program.
